My name is Daan Vink. I run Senior Dog Care from the Netherlands, and I have been writing about senior dog health, nutrition, mobility, and daily care since 2025.

The reason this site exists is Sammy.

Sammy was a mixed-breed dog, large, with black fur and a brown face. He was mine from the beginning and I lost him to cancer when he was 7. That is young, even for a dog. And the part that stayed with me was not just the grief. It was the realisation that I had not known enough. I had missed things. Small signs that, with the right information, might have led me to act sooner and do more.

That is not something you can go back and fix. But it is something you can decide to do differently going forward.

So that is what this site is. It is the information I wish I had when Sammy was getting older. Written clearly, without filler, without products I do not believe in.

What This Site Covers

Senior Dog Care focuses on four areas where the right knowledge makes a real, measurable difference to an aging dog’s quality of life.

Nutrition. Most senior dogs are being fed food designed for adult dogs, not aging ones. The protein requirements, caloric needs, and joint-supporting nutrients shift as dogs get older. Getting the food right is the foundation everything else builds on.

Mobility and joint health. Stiffness, arthritis, and pain are not inevitable parts of aging that owners have to accept. They are manageable with the right bed, the right supplements, the right home setup, and the right kind of daily movement. The difference between a dog that is comfortable and one that is not is usually a few decisions the owner did not know they needed to make.

Supplements. Not every supplement is worth buying. A lot of them are filler with good branding. I write about what the evidence actually supports and what Awin and Amazon merchants I recommend, with full transparency on why.

Daily care and comfort. The small stuff matters. A slippery floor, a bowl at the wrong height, a bed that has lost its shape. These are daily stressors for a dog whose joints are already working against them.

How I Write

Every article on this site starts from a simple question: what does a senior dog owner actually need to know to make a better decision for their dog today?

I do not write for search engines first. I write for the owner who is Googling something at 11 at night because they noticed their dog was slower getting up that morning and they do not know if that is arthritis or just age.

There is no team here. It is just me, researching and writing, with Sammy as the reason behind all of it.
